DESCRIPTION
Russell Watson
was the first classical crossover tenor to experience hype by the mass media at around the same time Charlotte Church appeared. Called The People's Tenor or simply The Voice, Watson enjoyed huge success, reaching number five in the UK's Album Chart with his debut album. Watson helped cement the classical crossover formula as his first three albums tick every box in the genre's conventions. Watson uses both operatic and pop vocals but early on in his career he was criticised by purists for his lack of technique whilst vocal coaches warned he could be damaging his voice. It turned out that they were right, and Watson eventually had to have surgery on his vocal chords. After the scare of losing his voice, Watson made a more personal album, neglecting the formula he had used on his previous three albums. After this, Watson suffered another setback as a tumour was found in his brain twice. He has dealt with his illnesses and operations publicly. During that time he was recruited as a judge on reality show Last Choir Standing. Although his last few albums abandoned classical (because his operations weakened his voice), Watson left Decca in 2009, signing with Sony instead and has since announced that his upcoming album will be classical.

I to have been a fan of Russell for many years, His live performances are an absolute joy to see and hear, he oozes charm and personality that captures his Audience to moment he steps on stage. As a Tenor Russell is fantastic but so talented and versatile everything he sings is amazing. His music touches hearts, soothes and brings happiness to so many.
