Faryl Smith is yet another product of reality TV courtesy of the Cowell. After auditioning for Britain's Got Talent in 2008, Smith was offered a recording contract with Cowell's record company, Sony BMG, but she shrewdly turned it down, turning her attention to Universal. Her debut album was released just in time for Mother's Day in the UK, and she smashed a record once held by Hayley Westenra, releasing the fastest selling debut album by a solo classical artist. At such a young age, Smith offers a surprisingly warm mature vocal. Although Smith volunteers no input into her albums, her team treat her with respect, offering unusual adaptations of well known classics and not shying away from surprises. Converting famous instrumental pieces like 'Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence' and 'Blue Danube' into songs and chancing covers such as 'In Dulce Jubilo', 'Adiemus' and 'Annie's Song', Smith is the perfect balance between keeping it safe, but not being entirely predictable. Hayley Westenra fans are likely to hold Smith in very high esteem. Smith has been silent since 2009 whilst she finishes her studies.
