DESCRIPTION
Taylor Caruso Kirk was discovered by Peter Gelb in 2003, the then president of Sony Classical who signed her to a seven album deal when she was just fifteen. Unfortunately, Gelb left Sony shortly after the deal, and the replacement didn't want to spend money on new artists. Kirk's deal fell through. Whilst anyone else would despair, it gave Kirk a confidence boost. She went on to record an independent album, Simple Gifts in 2005 (which she recently re-released) and is currently obtaining a degree in opera performance. Her debut album, released when she was seventeen, shows extraordinary promise for Kirk as a vocalist. The material is wearily predictable, but that's not too much of a concern, as Kirk is a keen songwriter and is planning to showcase her talents on her second album. Her voice is similar to Charlotte Church's Enchantment era, albeit with a lot more clarity, but the similarities are bound to have changed in the five years since Simple Gifts.
