DESCRIPTION
Scala is the women's choir, and the Kolacny brothers are arranger, composer, pianist and musical director Steven Kolacny and conductor Stijn Kolacny.  The project has been around since the early noughties but basked in obscurity independently until 2010 when their unique arrangement of Radiohead's "Creep" was used in the film trailer for The Social Network.  The trailer had been seen and/or heard up to 260 million times and the brothers found themselves courted by major record labels.  Not long after the success of "Creep", UK period drama Downton Abbey used their music for all of their UK trailers.  Currently signed to Warner, the choir now tours the globe and has reached album charts in various countries.  Like Gregorian, this project picks edgy repertoire to cover, ranging from U2, Linkin Park, Nirvana and Marilyn Manson to Kylie Minogue, Damien Rice, Joni Mitchell and Bjork.  They strip the songs bare and re-arrange them mostly to just piano and voices.  Not content to just cover songs, they have many of their own original material.  Truly eclectic, the choir's tone changes from track to track, but they are most famous for their more dark and atmospheric pieces.

Ha Bernie, I was in the audience in that video, though I was about in the middle. Our very own John was in the front row. :)

I've seen them live twice. The first time I was just amazed. So atmospheric. I didn't want it to end. The brothers are funny, and the conductor very passionate. The girls sound heavenly. The highlight is definitely when they dot the girls around the audience. Acoustics sound *awesome*. Love them. Love their material. Awesome. Awesome-o.
